IT IS
Jean De Groote
29/04/2023 - 09/09/2023
Through some twenty works, Jean De Groote guides us in a reflection on the essence of things, on what it is to exist, to be. His simple subjects on sober backgrounds constitute a special kind of still life, in which the objects, devoid of any meaning or function, are bathed in a profound silence and are merely being. In this way, his paintings encourage reflection on both the invisible and the visible. A serene and aesthetic art that can (and will?) plunge us into metaphysical questions that lie at the limits of our human brain's understanding.
In the exhibition 'It is', the work of Jean De Groote is confronted with the architecture and works of art of the Adornes estate and the Jerusalem chapel, which are full of history and meaning. It raises a series of fundamental questions about the relationship between being and time, conventions, spirituality and doing.
Jean De Groote is a painter-philosopher who lives and works in Nazareth (East Flanders). His art has been a passion-obsession for more than forty years.
